How Do I Reset My Drupal Password?

Step 1, Ask Siri.

I’m sorry, no, that’s for when you need to know if the Taco Bell drive-through is still open.

drupal 7 extended support and security updates

Step 1, Ask Siri’s boss.

There is a lot of stuff she doesn’t know, there really should be a backup system in place. Perhaps a subject for another time.

Real Step 1, Option 1, Request a new one through email.

– Use your web browser to go to the Drupal login page.

– Click “request new password.”

– In the username or email address text box, type the email address associated with the account, or type admin (if you have an administrator account with a different username, type that name instead).

– Click “Email new password.” Drupal sends a message to the email address associated with the administrator account.

– In the message, click the link to reset the administrator password.

Real Step 1, Option 2, if you have no email associated with the account:

Determine if you are using Drupal 7 or Drupal 8. If you don’t know, ask Siri. Or her boss.

For Drupal 7:

To change the Drupal admin password via phpMyAdmin you should:

– Go to your cPanel -> Databases box -> phpMyAdmin.

– Select the database that Drupal uses from the drop-down menu on the left.

– Click on the SQL tab.

– In the SQL query text field, type the following text: “update users set pass=md5(’NEWPASS’) where uid = 1.”

– Change NEWPASS with the new administrative password.

– Then click on the GO button and the Drupal password should have been changed.

– If it’s not, ask Siri.

For Drupal 8:

To change the password for a user on your Drupal 8 you can use Drush.

Drush is a command line interface that allows you to manage your Drupal websites via SSH. You can use the following commands over SSH (applicable for Drupal 7.x and 8.x websites) and change the password of your admin user:

drush8 user-password someuser –password=”enter-new-password”

“someuser” is the name of the actual user.

drush8 user-password admin –password=“myNewDrupalpassword931”

By running this command, we’ve changed the password of the admin user to myNewDrupalpassword931.

That should do it. And, the Taco Bell drive-through is open until at least 1:00 a.m.
