The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) is a national association representing the leading manufacturers and marketers of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary supplements. The organization looks to empower consumers by preserving and expanding choice and availability of consumer healthcare products. CHPA’s Educational Foundation helps consumers to make smart self-care decisions by providing information and guidance on how to safely use, store, and dispose of OTC medicines and dietary supplements.
One component of the Foundation’s initiatives is KnowYourOTCs.org which guides consumers who are making decisions about OTCs. The Foundation wanted to build out their website to include critical consumer information from their sponsors for about 30 of the most popular over-the-counter products. CHPA looked to New Target to make the brand pages more engaging and interactive, while still serving as a source for important information.
Together with CHPA, the New Target design team strategized about taking very simple data and images and displaying them in a dynamic and user-friendly. Since the pages serve as a one-stop resource for popular OTCs, we used simple icons to direct users to information on uses, directions, ingredients, warnings, and the manufacturer. We also included an actual image of the Drug Facts label on each product which serves as a recognizable reference. The pages also include links to additional information about active ingredients like acetaminophen along with links to Related Experts Advice and Safety Guidelines.
After the design, we had to implement these new pages into the existing WordPress-based KnowYourOTCs.org website that our team had not built. Needless to say, the New Target team got up to speed quickly and wasted no time implementing the new post type. The product pages are intuitive for the CHPA staff to edit and create, and they look great on all devices. There was a large content and image migration piece as well, and the New Target team found efficient methods to complete the project, add in a few UI enhancements, and meet CHPA’s timeline and budget.
